Government of India is likely to accept the recommedation of the state government to extend the services of incumbent Chief Secretary Bharat Bhushan Vyas. He is scheduled to retire on November 30. Sources told a Local Daily that the Department of Personnel and Training (DOPT) has cleared the extension as recommended by the state government. The final call is to be taken by the Appointment Committee of Cabinet (ACC) headed by Prime Minister. It is not clear whether the ACC will give the extension of six months in one go or just for three months in intial phase. A 1986 batch IAS officer Vyas had taken over as CS in April this year after B R Sharma fell out of favour of the government and later proceeded on central deputation. The state government, sources told Rising Kashmir, was keen to get six months extension in favour of Vyas who has infused new life into administration and set many mega projects rolling. Popular in bureaucracy as well as political set up, Vyas is seen as hard working officer who had the privilige of working as Principal Secretary to three successive Chief Ministers. In case he gets extension for six months it will avoid confusion in the working of administration. Earlier Ashok Jaitly and I S Malhi had got extension in the services as Chief Secretaries. Generally, Governmnet of India (GoI) discourages extensions at such levels but in case of Vyas it has become inevitable for the government to continue his services.
